Popular Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has disclosed that his colleague Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, is not his friend. He further asserts that he was not invited to his wedding. He made this revelation on The Honest Bunch Podcast, in response to AY’s claim that he was turned back at Basketmouth’s wedding. According to AY, when he went to Basketmouth’s wedding, his wife’s name was on the guest list. However, his name was not on the list, so he and his wife went home.
However, Basketmouth has denied this claim and stated that AY was not invited to his wedding.
He further explained that he and AY have never been friends. Also, he claimed he has never visited AY’s house or personally invited him to his house. He added that he has never called AY to hang out with him.
The feud between Basketmouth and AY started in 2006 after an incident that happened when Basketmouth had multiple wedding gigs on Saturdays. Basketmouth would attend one wedding and then leave the venue to catch up on another wedding. He would however need someone else to stand in for him. AY was one of the people who stood in for him.
During one of the gigs that AY stood in for, he was promised a fee of N30,000. However, he did not receive the fee and had to ask for it. This led to a disagreement between AY and the people who promised to pay him. AY claims that this incident was not an attempt to get back at Basketmouth. However, he did it because he needed the money at the time.
AY revealed that after the incident, he attempted to attend Basketmouth’s wedding but was not permitted to enter the venue. He also disclosed that he had been kicked out of events because Basketmouth was in attendance.
Despite the feud between the two comedians, AY had stated in a previous interview that he had no hard feelings towards Basketmouth and would always respect him. Basketmouth, on the other hand, has revealed that AY’s claim of being turned back at his wedding is false and that AY was not invited to the wedding.
