Nigerian comedian Basketmouth has weighed in on the viral fight between his colleague, Mr Jollof, and activist Very Dark Man, which reportedly occurred onboard a United Nigeria Airlines flight from Asaba to Lagos.

The altercation between Mr Jollof and Very Dark Man (VDM) was captured on video, showing the two trading blows inside the aircraft. Basketmouth, in a video shared online, described their actions as embarrassing and questioned why such conflicts have to escalate physically.

AY and I had issues for a very long time, but we never exchanged punches. How did we get here? Why can’t we live in love? As tight as a plane is, Mr Jollof and VDM still found a space to fight. This is embarrassing,” Basketmouth said, referencing his own past tensions with Ayo Makun.

Basketmouth’s comment comes against the backdrop of long-standing beefs in the comedy industry. AY had previously claimed their feud stemmed from a N30,000 debt, while Basketmouth denied ever being friends with him. In October, Basketmouth surprised fans by issuing a heartfelt apology to AY and others in the industry, calling for peace and harmony.

Meanwhile, VDM confirmed the fight on his Facebook page, claiming he had “dealt with” Mr Jollof and even showing bite marks on his chest. Controversial singer Portable also weighed in, mocking VDM for getting into a physical fight on a plane.

I hear say Mr Jollof turn Very Dark Man body to chicken dey chop am. Your body is just big for nothing, you no even sabi throw blow,” Portable said, adding that online attacks differ from real-life confrontations.

Mr Jollof has now broken his silence. In a video posted on Instagram, he apologized to the NCAA, United Nigeria Airlines, and passengers onboard, stating that he was only defending himself. He also apologized to his wife, children, and boss, emphasizing that he is not a violent person.

I want to use this medium to sincerely apologise to the NCAA, United Nigeria Airlines, and the passengers. I was only defending myself. To my lovely wife, I know you’re proud of me. To my kids, I am sorry, Daddy will never do this again. This isn’t my kind of person. It will never happen again,” Mr Jollof said.

Last year, Mr Jollof had filed a lawsuit against VDM over comments made about his wife, demanding an apology and N500 million in damages. VDM responded by insulting Mr Jollof publicly instead of apologizing. When VDM was later arrested, Mr Jollof celebrated, stating that he got what he deserved.
