In a surprising turn of events, veteran comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, recently disclosed the reason behind his colleague AY Makun’s absence from the lineup of his much-anticipated Lagos concert, despite the duo ending their 17-year-long feud earlier this year.
The longstanding rift between Basketmouth and AY Makun had been a well-known tale in the comedy business, stemming from an incident that occurred 17 years ago. However, the two comedians made headlines when they publicly buried the hatchet earlier this year, putting an end to their decade-long animosity.
Despite Basketmouth’s public apology and the apparent resolution of their feud, AY Makun will not be taking the stage at Basketmouth’s upcoming concert at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos. Basketmouth clarified the situation during an interview with Arise TV news, shedding light on the intricacies behind the absence.
According to Basketmouth, AY Makun won’t be performing or making a cameo appearance at the event due to its staged nature. Basketmouth explained,
AY is not on the bill to perform, but he has got a ticket. He’s attending. I sent him his ticket a few days ago.”
The comedy maestro further elaborated on the intricacies of the event, emphasizing that the show is meticulously designed and timed for television recording, spanning a three-hour set. With a limited number of comedians on the bill, including introductions by Bovi, and performances by Senator, Dan The Humorous, and Aproko from Abuja, Basketmouth clarified that the show’s precision doesn’t allow for impromptu appearances.
As the comedy world eagerly awaits the event, it is clear that despite the resolution of their feud, AY Makun’s absence from the performance lineup is a strategic decision in line with the carefully orchestrated flow of the show.
