Bauchi Emirate strips Senator of traditional title ‘for insulting Gov Mohammed’

Senator Shehu Buba Umar, who represents Bauchi South senatorial district in the National Assembly, has had his traditional title removed by the Bauchi Emirate Council for reportedly ‘insulting and disparaging’ the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.

Recall that at a press briefing last week, Buba of the All Progressive Congress, APC, known as the ‘Mandarin Bauchi’, accused Governor Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of stealing palliative goods donated by the APC-led federal government.

The senator was responding to the governor’s criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies.

He said that basic goods such as rice, corn, and fertilizer intended to ease economic difficulties in the state were sold by the state administration rather than supplied to residents.

However, in a letter dated August 14, 2024 and signed by Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Bauchi Emirate Council’s secretary, the Council indicated that the title removal occurred during a council meeting on Wednesday during which Senator Umar’s alleged wrongdoing was discussed.

The council then decided to remove him from his customary role within the emirate, citing that his actions violated the Bauchi Emirate’s ideals and traditions.
