Uriel Oputa, known for her stint on Big Brother Naija, recently took to social media to address admirers who have been sending unsolicited messages and displaying a sense of entitlement.
Her post, which has generated considerable buzz, is a stern reminder about self-respect and boundaries.
In her message, Uriel expressed frustration with people who, despite their own financial and personal challenges, feel entitled to her attention and resources. She criticized the tendency of some individuals to scrutinize the lives of others while neglecting to improve their own situations. Uriel emphasized that her status and experiences, including her ability to live comfortably in both London and Lagos, set her apart from those who engage in such behaviors.
She wrote:
Because I entered into the Big Brother house in Nigeria, you think I’m your mate. I will never be your mate. It’s not even about money; it’s purely based on exposure and intellect. I find it quite difficult to understand how a nation of people who thrive on self-entitlement and analyze other people’s lives instead of fixing their own spends the majority of their time doing so.”
Uriel further elaborated on her personal and professional standards, noting that her financial decisions and lifestyle choices should not be underestimated just because she does not flaunt luxury items publicly. She clarified:
For 10 years I’ve been looking after mummy, paying rent in London and Lagos. Yes, I want better for myself in a partner. Just because I don’t post luxury items or flaunt trips to Gucci, Prada, and other high-end places doesn’t mean I’m not a buyer. I do buy and wear well. I don’t travel economy; I use my own money for upper class or premium economy.”
The reality star addressed the inappropriate messages she has been receiving, particularly those that question her intentions regarding marriage. She concluded her post by stating:
I’ve been getting rubbish messages for a while now—‘You won’t marry me, you won’t marry me, so I’ll be your helper.’ I assure you, that’s not happening. Keep it respectful or don’t bother. When it reaches my turn, you’ll see me as an understanding babe. No vex me, I get it, I’m very homely, but no vex me, I swear.”
