Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has officially launched a new security initiative known as the Quick Response Squad (QRS), designed to improve emergency response and strengthen protection for communities facing security threats.

The squad was formally unveiled on Wednesday during a ceremony where Deputy Governor Dr. Sam Ode represented Governor Alia, marking the official commencement of the QRS operations.

The newly formed security unit brings together multiple security groups, including the Civilian Protection Guard (CPG), Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS), Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), local hunters, and the Joint Task Force (JTF). These teams will work in close coordination with the military, police, and other security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering, improve community safety, and ensure rapid deployment during emergencies.

Governor Alia, speaking through his deputy, stressed the urgency of addressing insecurity in the state. “The safety of our people remains a top priority, and this squad is designed to respond quickly and decisively wherever threats may arise,” he stated.

Hyacinth Alia explained that the QRS would be strategically deployed to high-risk areas to reinforce existing security measures and provide immediate assistance when needed.

The launch of the QRS reflects the state government’s commitment to tackling rising security challenges, particularly in rural and vulnerable communities. By integrating local security groups with formal law enforcement agencies, the initiative aims to create a more effective and coordinated approach to crime prevention and emergency response. The government expressed optimism that the squad would significantly improve security across Benue State while urging residents to cooperate with security operatives for better results.
