Ambassador Raymond Nago Asema, a prominent youth leader in Benue State, was reportedly abducted from his residence on Monday afternoon by unidentified men dressed in uniforms resembling those of Nigerian security personnel.
According to Emmanuel Slimchild Shishim, Chief of Staff to Asema, the incident occurred around 2:30 pm, shortly after the youth leader returned home.
Eyewitnesses reported that the armed men, believed to be police operatives, followed Raymond Nago before forcibly taking him away.
The abductors failed to identify themselves or disclose their reason for the arrest, leaving family members and associates deeply concerned about his whereabouts and safety.
As of now, neither the Nigeria Police Force nor any other security agency has issued an official statement confirming or denying involvement in the incident.
The lack of information has heightened anxieties among Benue youths, who view Asema as a vocal advocate for their rights and welfare.
Local civil society groups and community leaders have called for immediate clarification from security authorities, demanding transparency and due process.
The abduction has sparked fears of enforced disappearances and arbitrary arrests, particularly given Asema’s influential role in youth activism.
As the situation develops, concerned citizens are urging relevant agencies to investigate the incident and ensure Raymond Nago’s safe return if no formal charges exist against him.
The Benue State government is yet to comment, but pressure is mounting for official intervention to address the growing unease among the state’s youth population.
