Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, shone at the 23rd BET Awards held on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

Tems won the “Best Collaboration” award for her work on Future’s “Wait For U,” which also features Canadian rapper Drake, despite losing two of her three nominations. Remember how ‘Wait For U‘ won the 2023 Grammy Award for ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance‘? The song, which debuted at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart last year, has now won the BET twice. At the 2023 BET Awards, Tems had earlier lost to SZA in the “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist” category and to Beyoncé in the “Viewer’s Choice” category.

Burna Boy also lost out to Chris Brown and Usher for “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist” and Teyana Taylor for “Best Video Director” respectively.

However, the ‘African Giant’ crooner scooped the “Best International Act” award for a record fourth time.

Beyoncé and SZA tie for most wins at this year’s BET Awards (3 each).
