Bolanle Ninalowo Speaks on Narcissistic Abuse

Nollywood actor Bolanle Ninalowo recently opened up about emotional abuse and the impact of narcissistic behavior through a thoughtful post on Instagram.

He shared his insights on how isolation and manipulation can lead a person into a state of learned helplessness, where they feel entirely controlled and unable to resist. This situation often leads to feelings of depression, incompetence, and, in some cases, substance abuse as a means of escaping reality.

Ninalowo explained that once someone is in this vulnerable state, the narcissist has complete control over them, causing a total loss of self-identity and reducing them to mere dependence. He emphasized the possibility of healing and regaining one’s sense of self, offering hope to those who may be in similar situations.

In his post, Ninalowo also delved into the true meaning of narcissism, explaining that the term is often misunderstood or oversimplified as mere self-centeredness or arrogance. He clarified that narcissists share traits such as entitlement, grandiosity, and a lack of empathy, often stemming from childhood trauma that stunted their emotional development.

Narcissists, according to Ninalowo, rely entirely on external validation and attention—referred to as “narcissistic supply”—to maintain their self-esteem. He highlighted that narcissists are incapable of genuine love or empathy and view others as objects to fulfill their needs. Additionally, beneath the surface, they harbor anger that can erupt into narcissistic rage when they feel threatened or crossed.
