More than 150 houses were destroyed, one person was confirmed dead and several others were injured following a rainstorm that wreaked havoc in the Agbashi community, Doma Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
Vice Chairman of Doma LGA, John Bako Ari, confirmed the incident to the journalists on Wednesday. He stated that the tragedy happened Tuesday night and left several people without a place to live.
Over 150 residential buildings, churches, mosques, and schools were demolished, according to Bako Ari.
“It is true that the windstorm destroyed over 150 houses, including mosques and schools. The incident happened yesterday evening,” the vice chairman stated.
Speaking about the tragedy as well, Anthony Oshinyeka, Acting Chairman of the Agbashi Development Association (ADA), called it regrettable and mentioned how Bassa village in Iponu, on the outskirts of Agbashi, was severely impacted, with one guy losing his life and seven others being injured.
Oshinyeka urged the state and federal governments to intervene immediately to mitigate the disastrous effects of the windstorm on the Agbashi community’s distressed residents.
The acting ADA chairman further requested that relief items and medical aid be distributed to the impacted towns immediately.
