A section of the Katsina-Batsari road near Shagari Lowcost has become impassable after a bridge collapsed following heavy rainfall on Saturday night.

The incident occurred a few meters from Salbak Filling Station, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Sector Commander CC Maxwell Lede inspected the site on Sunday and ordered the immediate closure of the affected stretch. FRSC personnel have since barricaded both ends of the bridge to prevent access, redirecting motorists to alternative routes.

Motorists travelling from Katsina to Batsari are advised to use the Ring Road via Al-Qalam University, while those coming from Batsari to Katsina should take the Army Barracks–Jibia Road. Authorities have warned drivers to avoid the collapsed bridge, particularly during evening hours or rainy conditions, to minimise the risk of accidents.

No casualties have been reported, but the incident has disrupted traffic flow along the busy route. Emergency repairs are expected to commence soon as officials assess the extent of the damage.
