The Buhari-led Federal Government commissioned the Dadinkowa 40-megawatt multipurpose hydroelectric power plant dam in Gombe state on Friday.
On behalf of the President, Suleiman Adamu, the Minister of Water Resources, said the inauguration of the dam would improve the power situation in the country significantly.
He explained that the dam would not only add to the country’s energy but also provide agricultural opportunities for farmers.
According to him, “It has been connected to the national grid to deliver 40 megawatts of electricity. The power project is an integral part of the Dadinkowa multipurpose dam with the goal of providing 6,000 hectares of irrigation, 40 megawatts of electricity and 30,000 cubic meters of water supply to Gombe.
“I’m happy to inform this August gathering that the statutory inspection by relevant testing and certification of a unit of the power plant by relevant agencies of Government have been completed making the power plant ready for commissioning.”
“The three-unit turbines were activated and a generation capacity test was conducted with stakeholders between 18 and 21 March 2020 with the concessionaire satisfactorily completing the power plant in December 2020”, he said.
