Burna Boy Denies Using Songwriters, Sparks Controversy

Grammy award-winning singer Burna Boy has stirred controversy with a bold assertion on Twitter, claiming he does not use songwriters for his music.

He emphasized that any credits on his songs are solely for producers or featured artists, not writers, criticizing Western practices where producers are often credited as writers for creating instrumentals. Burna Boy asserted his independence as an artist, referring to himself as “Odogwu” and stating unequivocally that no one writes for him.

However, his statement faced immediate scrutiny from fans and critics. Many pointed out instances where Burna Boy had acknowledged collaborating with songwriters, notably citing Peruzzi’s involvement in his song “Pull Up.” Twitter personality Daniel Regha challenged Burna Boy’s claim by sharing a past tweet where Burna had openly admitted seeking Peruzzi’s help with songwriting, suggesting inconsistency in his statements.

Daniel Regha has been consistently critical of Burna Boy, previously calling out what he perceives as excessive boasting and questioning the credibility of Burna Boy’s Grammy wins. Regha argued that these awards might be influenced more by industry connections than by artistic merit alone.

The debate continues to provoke discussions about artistic authenticity, the role of collaboration in music creation, and public perceptions of celebrity achievements in the music industry.
