Grammy award-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy sparked online discussions following his appearance at the 2025 Met Gala.

The prestigious fashion event, held on May 6th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York, celebrated Black men under the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

Burna Boy graced the event in a striking red tuxedo paired with an oxblood eelskin cape, styled by the renowned Ozwald Boateng, the first Black designer with a storefront on London’s Savile Row.

However, his outfit attracted mixed reviews. While some appreciated the boldness of his look, others critiqued the styling choices. A tweet comparing the colour of his ensemble to Tetracycline went viral, sparking comments:

  • “To be sincere, Burna Boy is not good in fashion.” – @Godwin_ranking1

  • “Good outfit, but the stylist could’ve even ironed the trousers properly.” – @B_u_services

  • “Fashion inspiration can come from anywhere. So oga, be calming down.” – @Evaz_klozetz

Despite the criticism, many defended Burna Boy’s style, praising his willingness to experiment and highlighting Nigerians’ tendency to troll their own.
