The Bursar will be a Principal Officer of the university. In this role, the qualified candidate will directly report to the Vice-Chancellor for the management and control of the finances of the University.
Responsibilities
- S/he serves as an advisor to the Vice-Chancellor on finance-related matters. Coordinates the development of the University’s financial management plans, and coordinates the preparation of periodic income and expenditure statements, balance sheets, and cash flow estimates. The candidate will further ensure compliance with State and Federal tax laws.
- S/he provides important support in safeguarding the resources of the university. As well as also in identifying opportunities to safely invest, augment and enhance the university’s financial resources.
- S/he provides leadership in ensuring the keeping and maintenance of accurate records. Particularly of all assets and liabilities held by the University, amongst other responsibilities.
Qualifications
- The ideal candidate for the post of Bursar must have a bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or any related field
- In addition, the applicant must possess at least one of the following professional Accounting qualifications: ANAN, ACA, CIMA, CPA, ACCA, or ICAN
- S/he must have at least fifteen (10) years post-graduation experience, of which at least twelve (5) were spent in an appropriately senior managerial level in a higher education institution, ideally, not below the rank of Deputy Bursar for at least four (4) years.
- The appointee must demonstrate appropriate financial management skills, as well as certification in IFRS Evidence of success with automating financial and accounting reporting systems will be a significant advantage.
