Job Description

AGL (Africa Global Logistics) is the leading multimodal logistics operator (port, logistics, maritime, and rail) in Africa. The company is now part of the MSC Group, a leading maritime and logistics company.

Responsibilities

  •  To create and maintain a pipeline of candidate improvement projects ensuring, with the involvement of the Terminal management team, that these projects are classified and prioritized.
  • To ensure, as teams are established and assigned to projects, that they are composed of the most appropriate individuals, to maximize the chances of successful project completion.
  • Ensure, through the project team leaders, that all project-related documentation is kept up-to-date, and capable of being shared with other interested stakeholders (steering committee, management team, corporate office etc.).
  • To critically assess (with the direct involvement of senior Finance representatives and – initially – the PEX Corporate Office) the hard financial benefits of projects approaching completion/closure.
  •  To ensure that planned project returns are realized, by monitoring P&L performance post-closure.
  •  To build general Terminal capability and competency through mentoring, training and leadership. Mentoring Project Team Leaders, training future waves of Project Team Members and leading the Process Excellence initiative within the Terminal management team.
  •  Assist the Terminal Management team to achieve and maintain the terminal’s
  • Ensure that management control structures are in place such that focus on Process Excellence becomes an integral part of day-to-day management.
  • To act as the link between the project teams and PEX Steering Committee, to ensure that progress is reported regularly, and that any issues are resolved to ensure project deadlines are achieved.
  •  Ensure that Process Excellence activities are communicated throughout the Terminal environment using newsletters, noticeboards, local intranets, etc.
  •  Protect and develop AGL Group and TICT culture, values and reputation through correct business and personal behavior & ensure compliance with AGL Group policies.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement process and to meeting our business objectives.

Qualification

  • Degree-qualified – any discipline.
  • 7-8 years experience in a management position, to include people/team management.
  • An experienced Lean Practitioner/certified Six-Sigma Master Black Belt, with extensive/proven LSS Project Management experience.
  • Project Management Skills.
  • Comfortable with Finance procedures and Financial reporting tools/methods –
  • P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow etc.
  • Results-orientated.
  • A diplomatic approach – selling rather than telling.
  • Very capable communicator (written and oral) – inspiring communication
  • across boundaries, within functions, up and down hierarchies.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to maintain credibility when sitting alongside the Terminal senior Management team.
