Nollywood actor Charles Inojie has sparked reactions online after congratulating Senator Monday Okpebholo, the newly elected Governor of Edo State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Okpebholo’s victory, noting he received 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the PDP and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.

Inojie’s post featured a photo of the Governor-elect kneeling, alongside a message praying for his loyalty to the ordinary people of Edo State. His statement resonated with many, prompting a mix of supportive and sarcastic comments.

Reactions varied, with some highlighting a perceived trend among governors to kneel before their political benefactors. Comments included skepticism about the new governor’s commitment to the people, with one user suggesting he would prioritize the interests of the elite over the common citizen.

The conversation surrounding the election also drew in actress Jemima Osunde, who expressed concerns about the effectiveness of social media activism and voter participation. She lamented that despite efforts to vote for change, little seemed to shift in the political landscape.

In the same vein, singer Davido voiced his discontent with the INEC’s directives during the election, criticizing the commission’s influence and urging Edo citizens to remain vigilant. His comments drew scrutiny from fellow artist Cynthia Morgan, who questioned his genuine connection to Edo State, suggesting his involvement was more about publicity than authentic concern.
