Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly in the race to sign Argentine goalkeeper Emi Martinez this summer. The 30-year-old could leave Aston Villa this summer amid interest from a number of other Premier League clubs.
Martinez is likely to seek a new club this summer, despite having a contract with Aston Villa until June 2027.
According to TYC Sports, the Argentina international has a number of options should he decide to leave, with Tottenham, Manchester United, and Chelsea interested in signing the world cup winner.
All three teams are in need of new shot-stoppers. David De Gea is almost out of contract at United, Chelsea is reportedly unsure about Kepa Arrizabalaga’s credentials, while Hugo Lloris is expected to leave Spurs after 11 years.
Reports claim that Martinez would not cost an exorbitant amount, with Aston Villa looking to recoup all – and perhaps more – of the £17m they paid Arsenal in 2020.
Having joined Villa three years ago, Martinez has enjoyed a remarkable upturn in fortunes in his club career. They have won three national trophies as well.
Martinez be in action for Villa as they take on Tottenham in the Premier League this Saturday.
