Nigerian rapper and songwriter Oladipo Olamide Emmanuel, popularly known as Chinko Ekun, has sparked a lively debate on social media with his recent statement about money and happiness.

Taking to Twitter, now known as X, the rapper stated, “You can have money and still not be happy.”

While his statement resonates with some, many netizens took a different stance, expressing their desire to experience wealth first before drawing conclusions. Some commenters humorously insisted they would prefer to “cry in a Ferrari” than face financial struggles.

One user, Olorunjuwon, said,

Lemme have the money first, experience is the best teacher.” Similarly, Nozy Funky Diablo added, “No be lie, but make I get money first.”

Despite the differing views, Chinko Ekun’s message joins a broader conversation about wealth and fulfillment. Anita Okoye, the ex-wife of Paul Okoye (Rude Boy), had also previously pointed out that money can’t buy intangible things like true love, inner peace, or authentic happiness. In contrast, actor Joseph Momodu, while posing with a Ferrari in the U.S., cheekily suggested it’s better to cry in luxury than in an ordinary car.

The debate continues, with many holding onto the belief that, while money may not guarantee happiness, it certainly adds comfort.
