Churches have become dens of robbers, Pastor Giwa laments

Senior Pastor Adewale Giwa of Awaiting The Second Coming Of Christ Ministry has raised an alarming concern about the declining moral state of modern churches, describing many as having become “dens of robbers.”

In a passionate sermon delivered to his congregation, the cleric criticised the increasing commercialisation of the gospel and the exploitation of worshippers by some religious leaders.

Pastor Giwa expressed dismay over how some churches prioritise wealth accumulation over genuine spiritual growth, with pastors manipulating vulnerable members into making excessive financial contributions.

He condemned the growing trend of prosperity preaching that focuses more on material blessings than on righteousness, holiness, and true worship. According to him, such practices have turned sacred places of worship into business centres where congregants are deceived rather than spiritually nourished.

The clergyman also lamented the lack of accountability in many religious organisations, where leaders live extravagant lifestyles while ordinary members struggle financially.

He called for a return to biblical standards, urging church leaders to lead with humility, integrity, and transparency. Pastor Giwa warned that without repentance and reformation, the church risks losing its divine purpose and becoming irrelevant in society.

Pastor Giwa remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting his bold stance against corruption in the pulpit while others argue that not all churches engage in such practices.
