Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has confirmed that Gabriel Jesus has undergone an operation on his knee.
Arteta revealed this after the Gunners won the Emirates Cup this year by defeating Monaco in a penalty shoot-out.
Jesus was not included in the matchday squad, with Eddie Nketiah selected to lead the attack in his absence.
Nketiah scored the equalizer as Arsenal played a 1-1 draw with the Ligue 1 side in regulation time.
Speaking after the game on Jesus, Arteta said: “
Unfortunately, he had a little procedure this morning. He’s had some discomfort in his knee that caused him some issues so they had to go in. He’s going to be out for a few weeks.”
Jesus will now miss Sunday’s Community Shield game against Manchester City and the start of the Premier League campaign.
