The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced that the National Average Cost of a Healthy Diet (CoHD) per adult per day was N938 in February 2024.
The NBS confirmed this in its CoHD report for February 2024, which was released in Abuja on Friday.
According to the bureau, the CoHD was the most affordable mix of locally accessible goods that satisfied worldwide food-based dietary requirements.
It stated that it was used to assess both physical and economic access to good foods.
“This is a lower bound (or floor) of the cost per adult per day, excluding the cost of transportation and meal preparation.”
According to the agency, the following data were required to calculate the CoHD indicator: retail food prices, food composition data, and the Healthy Diet Standard.
The NBS disclosed that in February, the southwest had the highest average CoHD at N1,157 per adult per day, followed by the southeast at N1,077.
It noted that the North-West had the lowest average CoHD, at N723 per adult per day.
The NBS further explained that at the state level, Ekiti, Lagos, and Osun had the highest CoHD at N1, 295, N1, 195, and N1, 184, respectively.
The bureau stated that Katsina had the lowest CoHD at N673, followed by Sokoto and Zamfara at N714 and N720, respectively.
