Delta State has found 13 individuals guilty of gender-based violence (GBV) crimes from March 2023 until the present. Mrs. Faith Okpohworho, the Director of Women Development and Gender Affairs at the State’s Ministry of Women Affairs, shared this information in Asaba during a training session on the state’s national GBV dashboard. She expressed disappointment over the ministry’s failure to include GBV data on the national dashboard.
The ministry uploaded 91 GBV cases to the NAPTIP database, leading to 13 convictions. Court proceedings are ongoing for 79 cases, while authorities have processed and forwarded 130 cases related to gender-based violence.
The director emphasized the need for proper collection, harmonization, and uploading of GBV victim information to the National Dashboard for accurate statistical representation.
The Association Against Child Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria (AACSGBV) Coordinator, Ambassador Eeris Jewo Ibi, had urged GBV-related NGOs to collaborate to provide standardized data to the National Dashboard.
Eerie also argued that all NGOs should work to end GBV and align themselves with the most recent GBV statistics to promote growth in all spheres.
