Court Orders DNA Test for Mohbad’s Son Liam After Father’s Request

The paternity case surrounding Liam Aloba, son of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has taken a new turn.

On Tuesday, September 1st, a Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu, Lagos State, ordered a DNA test to be conducted on Liam. The ruling, delivered by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga, followed an application filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who requested the test to conclusively determine his grandson’s paternity.

The court directed the Chief Medical Officer or Pathologist at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, where Mohbad’s remains are preserved, to extract tissue, hair, or other relevant samples necessary for the DNA analysis.

Joseph Aloba, represented by counsel Augustine Adegbemi, argued that clarity on paternity is vital due to its implications on the child’s welfare and his mother’s maintenance obligations.

Interestingly, Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, represented by her lawyer Kabir Akingbolu, did not oppose the application, prompting the court to grant the order without objection.

The matter has been adjourned to November 11, 2025, for further proceedings.

Calls for a DNA test began after Mohbad’s death in 2023, with many demanding clarity on Liam’s paternity. Joseph Aloba himself has repeatedly insisted on the need for the test.

Last year, the court granted an order to serve Omowunmi notice of the pending application after failed attempts by the Sheriff to reach her directly. The process was eventually posted at her last known address.

In January, Omowunmi, through her lawyers, accused her father-in-law of deliberately avoiding the DNA process while publicly tarnishing her image. Her legal team demanded an apology, stating that Joseph Aloba’s remarks unfairly portrayed Liam as illegitimate.
