Cynthia Morgan, the former Nigerian dancehall singer, has shared her thoughts on Jude Okoye’s recent arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Okoye, the former manager of Psquare, was arraigned on February 26th at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi over an alleged ₦1.38 billion fraud. Reflecting on this development, Cynthia revisited her tumultuous past with Jude, expressing gratitude for being alive to witness this day and shedding light on her struggles following their fallout.
Cynthia Morgan first reacted to the news with sadness, lamenting the deteriorating relationship between the Okoye brothers and emphasizing that such issues could have been resolved privately. However, in a follow-up Instagram post, she delved deeper into her personal experience, recounting the events of May 25, 2020, when she felt betrayed and vilified.
She explained how, at the time, nearly every Nigerian dismissed her claims against Jude Okoye and her former manager, Joy. The backlash extended to her social media handler, who was reportedly bullied into retracting statements from an interview. According to Cynthia, this marked one of the darkest periods in her life, leaving her shattered as her story was twisted with lies.
Only God will help me forget the 25th of May, 2020, when almost every Nigerian called me a liar… My handler was bullied till she wrote an apology trying to retract my interview. My whole world was shattered, my story retold with lies,” she wrote.
Despite her pain, Cynthia expressed gratitude for being alive to witness recent events.
In 2020, Cynthia Morgan accused Jude Okoye of taking over her social media accounts and stripping her of her stage name after she left his record label, an accusation Jude denied. She also alleged he owed her ₦7 million and publicly cursed him, describing him as “evil.” Jude responded with sarcasm, dismissing her claims and mocking her accusations.
The ongoing tension within the Okoye family has also drawn reactions from Paul Okoye, Jude’s younger brother and one-half of the music duo Psquare. Addressing Jude’s arraignment, Paul expressed solidarity with him, posting on Instagram: “Exactly what he wants. This too shall pass. Stay strong, brother.”
The Okoye brothers’ longstanding feud has been a source of public scrutiny, with Paul accusing Peter of getting him and Jude arrested by the EFCC in December 2023. Though cleared of all charges, Paul believes this incident deepened the divide. Peter, in turn, accused Paul and Jude of marginalizing and disrespecting him, his family, and his contributions to their music career.
Jude Okoye also spoke out, questioning why he is continually blamed for Psquare’s issues despite having distanced himself from the duo for eight years.
