Nigerian Twitter personality Daniel Regha has taken a swipe at former presidential candidate Peter Obi for his recent visit to music star Paul Okoye and his elder brother, Jude Okoye.
The visit, which was aimed at possibly reconciling the Okoye brothers following their ongoing family feud, has sparked mixed reactions online, with Regha questioning the politician’s priorities.
Following a much-publicized fallout between Paul Okoye, his twin brother Peter, and their elder brother Jude, the Labor Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, paid a visit to Paul and Jude. The visit, which seemed aimed at mending the strained relationship among the brothers, was shared on social media by Paul Okoye, who expressed gratitude towards the politician and wished him more blessings.
However, not everyone was pleased with Obi’s gesture. Daniel Regha, a well-known Twitter commentator, took to the platform to criticize Peter Obi for the visit, suggesting that it was unnecessary and questioning why the politician chose to involve himself in what he described as “clout-chasing drama.”
Regha tweeted,
So Peter Obi couldn’t talk to the Okoye brothers over the phone? He had to visit ’em & do it in front of a camera. Making out time for P-Square’s clout-chasing drama when there are more pressing issues to be addressed (as an opposition) is a misplaced priority.”
Regha’s comments reflect a sentiment shared by some who believe that Peter Obi’s time could be better spent addressing more significant national issues rather than involving himself in celebrity disputes.
The tension between the Okoye brothers has been ongoing, with reports last year from controversial blogger Stella Dimokokorkus suggesting a brewing war over joint funds allegedly diverted by Jude Okoye. The situation escalated to the point where the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) got involved, and Jude Okoye was reportedly detained.
In July, Instagram blogger Cutie Juls claimed that Paul and Jude had been arrested by the commission, which Paul later confirmed in an Instagram post, celebrating his exoneration after a thorough investigation. He also revealed that it was his twin brother Peter who had filed the petition that led to their arrest, though Peter has since clarified that his actions were solely directed at Jude for allegedly diverting their funds into a secret account.
This latest family drama is another chapter in the long-running saga between the Okoye brothers, who previously made headlines in December 2021 when they reconciled after a five-year feud. Their reconciliation was widely celebrated, but it seems the peace was short-lived as new conflicts have arisen, drawing in even political figures like Peter Obi.
