Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Davido has boasted about his wealth and work ethic, claiming he could stop making music today and still have billions of dollars.
Unlike many of his colleagues who, according to him, make music to sustain their lifestyle, Davido says he doesn’t have to work another day to stay wealthy. In a viral clip, the singer admitted he sometimes regrets working so hard, revealing that the only reason he’s still pushing is because of the odds stacked against him.
I’m regretting myself for being hardworking. From today, if I don’t work again in my life, I have a billion of dollars, but a lot of odds against me is why I said fvck it, I gotta do this,” Davido said.
This is not the first time the Grammy-nominated artist has made bold statements about his success. Last year, he crowned himself the “King of Nigeria” during a trip to Paris, where he introduced himself as such while interacting with Saudi royalty.
Over the years, Davido has reflected on his impact in the music industry. In a tweet, he once stated that since his arrival on the scene, “nobody has had peace,” adding that he loves the disruption he brings.
Despite criticism and attempts to discredit him, Davido believes divine favor has kept him ahead. Early this year, he declared that 2024 would be his year, urging people to “fix their speakers” as he was coming stronger than ever.
The hitmaker is currently on tour for his 5ive album and recently sold out a show in Toronto. Sharing moments from the concert, he said the only way to achieve greatness is to love one’s craft and work hard, adding that miracles do happen but only through relentless effort.
Davido explained that the album’s title holds a prophetic meaning: “Five represents grace—unmerited and deserved favor. Everyone has their unique grace,” he said while teasing the project.
With multiple chart-topping albums and historic shows that attract massive crowds, Davido has cemented his place as one of Africa’s greatest artists. His milestone achievement of making the Billboard Honor Roll in 2024, as the only Nigerian artist on the list, further proves his dominance.
