Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has honoured his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, in a touching way by commissioning a hostel named after her at Clifford University in Abia State.
The singer, accompanied by his 30BG crew and nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, visited the university to unveil the new building, which he described as more than a tribute — but a continuation of his mother’s legacy.
Sharing moments from the ceremony on Instagram, Davido expressed how emotional it felt standing before the graduating class while delivering his commencement speech.
“My mother, Dr Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher, a giver, and a woman who believed education and compassion could change lives. Everything I am , the music, the drive, the heart, came from her,” he wrote.
He said the hostel was built in honour of her and every young African chasing their dreams, adding that “true greatness is not measured only in numbers, but in impact.”
Reacting to her husband’s kind act, Chioma Adeleke shared a post on her Instagram story, describing it as “so beautiful.”
Fans praised Davido for his thoughtful gesture, describing it as one of the most meaningful ways to keep his mother’s memory alive.
Dr. Veronica Adeleke passed away in 2003 at the age of 40. Davido has continued to celebrate her legacy over the years, often crediting her influence for his compassion and drive to uplift others.
