Award-winning musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, recently shared revelations about his father’s influence on his journey in the music industry. In an interview with American TV host Kelly Clarkson, Davido unveiled the challenges he faced when starting his music career.
Davido acknowledged his father, Adedeji Adeleke, who emphasized the significance of education and encouraged him to finish school before pursuing music. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in education, Davido made an agreement with his father to attend school for two weeks and focus on his music career for the remaining two weeks each month.
As his music career flourished, his growing fame became a distraction in his educational setting. His heightened visibility in the music industry caused disruptions in his schooling, leading him to transition into part-time classes. This shift triggered displeasure from his father, who wielded considerable influence, causing show cancellations and difficulties in securing bookings due to concerns about Davido’s academic commitments.
Despite these challenges, Davido eventually completed his education, highlighting his father’s initial insistence on combining education with his passion for music. Today, Davido fondly describes his father as his biggest fan, acknowledging his influential role in his life and career development.
Moreover, Davido expressed how one of his songs earned recognition from a former Nigerian president. His track resonated so profoundly with the president that it became his ringtone, a moment that significantly underscored the growth and impact of Davido’s musical career.
Reflecting on family connections, Davido’s cousin, B-Red, previously recounted a time when they faced financial struggles. B-Red shared an incident where they sold televisions from Davido’s father’s house to gather funds, influenced by an offer from Don Jazzy with certain conditions. This action, while regrettable for B-Red, served as a pivotal moment in their lives.
In an emotional note written last year, Davido credited his father for instilling essential life values, including humility and hard work.
