Nigerian music sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has set the internet abuzz with his shocking declaration of quitting the music industry.
The Grammy-winning artist’s announcement came in response to a viral photoshopped image circulating online, fueling speculations and criticisms about his career. In a series of tweets, Davido expressed his frustration, acknowledging the relentless pressure from detractors who wish to see him exit the music scene.
Y’all really want me out the game that bad? After the next album, I’m done. So you can have peace,” he declared.
However, Davido’s decision stirred mixed reactions among fans and critics alike. While some pleaded for him to reconsider, others accused him of playing the victim card. Amidst the heated debate, Davido’s contemporaries, including Wizkid, chimed in, sharing their own struggles with the pressures of fame and public scrutiny. Wizkid, in particular, faced similar backlash from fans demanding new music, prompting him to announce a hiatus and contemplate alternative career paths.
In a recent interview, Davido also shed light on the challenges of being boxed into the Afrobeat genre, advocating for recognition of diverse musical styles within the African music landscape. He emphasized his unique blend of sounds, branding his music as Afro-fusion rather than conforming to traditional labels.
