The relationship between Nigerian Afrobeat star Davido and controversial singer Portable has soured, leading Davido to unfollow Portable on Instagram.
This fallout occurred after Portable publicly criticized Davido on Instagram Live for giving him what he considered poor advice regarding record label deals during a recent meeting in the US.
Portable, known for his outspoken nature, claimed that Davido advised him against signing with Sony Music, despite being signed to the label himself. Instead, Davido suggested Portable sign with Empire and collect an advance. This advice didn’t sit well with Portable, who compared their Grammy aspirations and accused Davido of giving conflicting guidance.
Following this incident, many criticized Davido for linking up with Portable, known for his contentious behaviour. Amid the backlash, Davido unfollowed Portable on Instagram, a move that drew mixed reactions from fans.
The tension escalated as Portable accused Zlatan Ibile of attempting to create friction between him and Davido. Portable alleged that during their time in Atlanta, Zlatan warned Davido to “behave himself” around Portable, leading to disappointment and further conflict.
Portable also addressed his previous collaboration with Davido’s rival, Dammy Krane. Despite the friction, Portable pleaded with fans not to use this collaboration to drive a wedge between him and Davido, whom he referred to as his helper. This plea followed a series of disputes between Portable and other artists, including an incident where he cursed Dammy Krane for reaching out to him amid the drama with Davido.
Portable’s tumultuous relationship with Davido dates back to 2022 when they clashed over political affiliations. Portable supported Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Davido backed his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, who ultimately won. The disagreement led to Davido unfollowing Portable, which was later resolved after Portable publicly apologized.
As the Afrobeat scene continues to grow, the interactions between its stars remain a focal point for fans and followers alike.
