Award-winning music star Davido’s bouncer, Segun Ogunjobi, better known as Segxy, has broken his silence on reports of the singer assaulting him.
This comes after a video surfaced online showing Davido allegedly slapping Segxy during his wedding to long-time partner, Chioma.
In the video, Davido appears to furiously slap Segxy while Chioma stands nearby. The incident reportedly occurred when Segxy tried to stop a child from reaching Davido, which seemingly provoked the singer’s reaction. The video quickly went viral, sparking outrage among fans and leading to public criticism of Davido.
One critic, identified as Benny, questioned the appropriateness of Davido’s behaviour, asking,
Is abusing people in broad daylight now cool?” In response to the controversy, an unbothered Davido simply stated, “Fuck what people got to say, stay active!”
Now, Segxy has come forward to clarify the situation. He denied being slapped by Davido, stating that the singer has never slapped any of his staff. According to Segxy, Davido was merely cautioning him to let the child approach. He explained that the child appeared unexpectedly, and his initial reaction was to stop the child from reaching Davido.
Segxy emphasized his loyalty to Davido, referring to the singer as his “blood and family” and stating that he understands Davido without the need for words.
As regards the fake video flying on the internet. Y’all commenting shit you don’t know. My boss didn’t slap me and has never slapped any of his staff before. He was only cautioning me to allow the boy. The boy in question appeared from nowhere, and I tried to stop him. Besides, my boss is my blood and family; I understand him so well without a word from his mouth. 30BG for life. HML boss,” Segxy wrote.
This incident is not the first time Davido and his security team have faced scrutiny. In February, another of Davido’s bouncers, Lati, faced backlash after a video showed him assaulting a fan. Lati later compensated the fan and apologized for the incident.
Last year, Davido made headlines for knocking a fan’s phone during Mohbad’s Candlelight ceremony, and at his Timeless Concert, he was seen ready to punch a fan who stormed the stage before security intervened.
Despite the recurring controversies, Segxy’s statement aims to put to rest the latest rumours and reinforce his unwavering support for Davido and the 30BG crew.
