Ossai Ovie Success, an aide to the Delta State Governor, has caused a stir on social media with his bold remarks on relationships.
In a recent Facebook post, Ossai declared that any woman living with her partner without having her bride price paid is a “cheap commodity.” His controversial statement has ignited a heated conversation online, with opinions sharply divided.
Ossai Ovie Success’ comment has drawn mixed reactions across social media platforms. In his Facebook post, Ossai stated, “Any woman who is staying in her man’s house without bride price payment is a cheap commodity.” This remark quickly gained attention, leading to a buzz of comments and counterarguments from his followers.
One commenter, Adelakun Tufayl, flipped the narrative, writing, “Any man that has the mentality that makes her stay without paying the bride price is a cheaper commodity.” Another user, Esther Modella, responded humorously, asking, “What of the one wey dem do small thing for her head?”
Criticism of Ossai’s post continued, with Jesse J. official questioning the legitimacy of his stance, particularly for marriages conducted legally through the registry. “What if the marriage was conducted by the registry? Illiteracy is all I see here,” he commented.
Some netizens, like Kwame Zack, shifted the focus to modern relationships, claiming, “Most people are in situationship,” while others like Shes_precious_ mocked the situation, stating, “They won’t answer you. They already turned themselves into homeless children because of love.”
The conversation took another turn when Modest Simon Nwokike asked, “What of the men that live in the woman’s house? What do we call them?” highlighting the double standard in Ossai’s statement.
While many found Ossai’s comment offensive, some expressed agreement. Escritor9336 simply replied, “Louder,” while others defended the traditional significance of bride price.
In contrast to Ossai’s traditional stance, singer Simi has previously advocated for cohabitation before marriage. Drawing from her own experience with her husband, Adekunle Gold, Simi explained how living together before marriage allowed them to understand each other better. She encouraged couples to cohabit as a way to strengthen their bond before tying the knot.
However, relationship coach Solomon Buchi countered Simi’s view, arguing that no matter how long couples date or live together, they can never fully know each other before marriage. He advised couples not to prolong their dating period just to understand each other better, as marriage will still bring unforeseen challenges.
Adding her voice to the discussion, Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola recently shared her relationship advice. She warned individuals not to enter relationships with only their heart and soul, urging them to use their brain as well. According to Opeyemi, relying solely on emotions can lead to poor decisions, and a balance of both emotional and rational thinking is essential.
