Nollywood actor and politician Desmond Elliot has issued an apology to a fan who expressed anger over his social media posts.

The fan, identified as @iam_valasor, left a comment on Desmond’s Instagram page, reacting to photos the actor shared from his AMVCA after-party look. The fan bluntly admitted that seeing the actor’s posts triggered anger ever since his 2020 comments about Nigerian youths during the End SARS protest.

I really don’t know why, but ever since that year you went and spoke against us ‘Nigerian youths,’ seeing your post just dey vex me, no offence but it is what it is,” the fan wrote.

Surprisingly, Desmond Elliot responded with a brief apology, saying, “Ngwanu no vex. Na wa o.”

The backlash stems from a 2020 speech where Elliot, during the height of the End SARS protest, called for the regulation of social media. The statement drew widespread criticism, with many accusing him of betraying the trust of Nigerian youths.

In a later interview with TVC, the actor admitted his comments were made out of emotion and apologised, urging Nigerians to embrace love over hate. Despite this, many youths remained unconvinced, citing a lack of tangible development from his tenure as a Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Surulere Constituency.

To mend relations, Desmond Elliot commissioned the installation of high-capacity transformers in Surulere, but his efforts have yet to fully regain the trust of the community.
