Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has caused a stir on social media with her outfit to the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). The Asaba-based actress was spotted at the event wearing a corset shoulder pad ensemble designed by celebrity designer Prudential.
While Destiny Etiko’s outfit was intended to make a statement, it has instead become a point of contention for many netizens. The actress was met with harsh criticism, with several social media users mocking her fashion choice. Chef_ivyjones expressed dismay, saying, “I need to arrest whoever is in charge of her closet,” while Lesliepowers3 remarked, “Her own things just dey always dey different.”
Some even went as far as to compare her outfit to subpar tailoring, with Gochbaby stating, “This one don carry Asaba tailor sew AMVCA outfit.” Others, such as Bigsuccey, noted how her fashion sense often seems off, commenting, “This one dey always dress like Mgbeke.”
However, not all responses were negative. Mizhnifer defended her, saying, “U guys she tried this time,” and Iam_hamara complimented her with, “Oh wow, coat of many colors. Suits her body.”
This isn’t the first time Destiny Etiko’s fashion has come under fire. Last year, her outfit to the AMVCA also disappointed fans, with many expressing dissatisfaction over a red bodycon dress that was deemed inappropriate. The transparent dress revealed her body parts, leading filmmaker Stanley Nwoko to mock her choice, suggesting her stylist should be arrested.
Destiny Etiko has been a regular target of fashion-related ridicule, including the 2023 white wedding of her colleague Nkiru Sylvanus, where her sheer dress revealed her underwear. Similarly, her Valentine’s Day 2023 outfit, a transparent red jumpsuit with glittering red stripes, drew intense backlash, with many calling for her to fire her stylist.
Despite the criticisms, Destiny Etiko remains unapologetic about her fashion choices. Responding to the constant trolling, she noted that she is living her best life and advised her detractors to focus on improving their own lives instead of scrutinizing hers. “If you invest the time you spent on my page in your life, God might have mercy on you,” she stated.
