Fans of Nigerian disc jockey Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, have criticized her recent advice to the public regarding the importance of choosing one’s social circle wisely.
The entertainer shared a photo of herself with billionaire Aliko Dangote and Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, captioning it:
Show me who you surround yourself with, and I’ll tell you who you are. Choose your circle wisely. DSG @AminaJMohammed and Alhaji @Aliko_DangoteGCON, your presence is truly a privilege. Na gode sosai, shugabannina.”
DJ Cuppy’s comments sparked a wave of disagreement among her followers, who pointed out that her social circle may not have been a choice but rather a result of her privilege, being the daughter of a billionaire.
- One user, Official Double XX, commented, “You did not choose your circle, Cuppy; you inherited it, and that’s not bad. Who wouldn’t wish such?”
- Another, Quiet Ifee_, added, “Sissy calm down, them just born you into this circle, no be you surround.”
- Invxtor_ys remarked, “Who life favor go think say others no dey try.”
- Pjuwah chimed in, “I surround myself with God and His angels.”
- Udor Awasi stated, “My dear, you were born with your circle.”
- Dolly Peace Clothing noted, “It is good to come from privileged homes. It really attaches to a lot of many opportunities. Cuppy, you win.”
- Thaddeus Junior Thaddeus concluded, “But you have a fighter in your circle. Talk well, rich kid.”
In other news, as Nigeria celebrated its 64th independence anniversary, DJ Cuppy described the country as her superpower. She acknowledged the ongoing challenges Nigeria faces but expressed her unwavering hope and pride in her Nigerian heritage, stating,
Being a Nigerian is the superpower of my brand; no matter where I go, I will always carry a piece of Nigeria with me.”
