Music producer and record label boss Don Jazzy has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the Asaba movie industry, also known as “Nollywood South,” following the tragic death of actor Junior Pope.
Don Jazzy took to his Instagram page to share a video posted by a lady named Empress Judas, detailing her disturbing experience with a movie production company called Great Rock Entertainment.
According to Empress Judas, she was asked by a producer to pay a sum of ₦200,000 to secure a role in their movies, promising that they saw talent in her. However, things took a dark turn when the producer demanded sexual favors from her, which she refused. Subsequently, the producer ceased communication with her and eventually blocked her.
Empress Judas shed light on the prevalent issue of exploitation in the Asaba movie production industry, where young talents are lured into paying money with false promises of roles, only to be coerced into compromising situations. She emphasized that many individuals pose as producers without proper credentials, and most of the movies they produce end up being low-quality YouTube films.
Moreover, Empress Judas highlighted that the tragic incident leading to Junior Pope’s death is not an isolated case, as numerous young actors have lost their lives under similar circumstances. She pointed out that the only reason Junior Pope’s case garnered attention was because of his fame.
Don Jazzy expressed his support for Empress Judas for naming the alleged perpetrators, emphasizing that without exposing the individuals involved, the issue within the Asaba movie production industry would persist.
The Asaba movie producers have faced increased scrutiny and backlash following Junior Pope’s death, as their negligent practices have come under intense scrutiny.
