Veteran Nollywood actress Dupe Jayesimi has shared her deeply emotional journey, revealing the struggles of childlessness, a failed marriage, and the pain of raising children who turned their backs on her.
In a candid interview with Biola Bayo on the Talk to B podcast, Yoruba actress Dupe Jayesimi opened up about the trials she faced in her personal life. From miscarriages and failed IVF attempts to marital disputes, the actress bared her soul, shedding light on a journey filled with heartbreak and resilience.
Dupe revealed that her struggles began early in her marriage when she suffered a miscarriage. The loss led to a rift between her and her husband, who began using a pillow to demarcate their bed. The strained relationship ended when her husband brought his pregnant girlfriend into their matrimonial home shortly after their separation.
I cried,” she said. “Two weeks after I left, he moved in with his pregnant girlfriend. I became a drunkard even though I wasn’t an alcohol lover before.”
At the age of 40, Dupe experienced a rare pregnancy complication, with the baby found at the back of her womb. The heartbreak led her to question God and her purpose. Despite undergoing IVF treatments twice, her attempts to conceive were unsuccessful.
The actress also shared the emotional toll of raising other people’s children, only to be abandoned by them.
So many children that I have taken good care of don’t even look back to check on me,” she lamented.
Though her journey has been filled with challenges, Dupe remains hopeful. “I believe that no one will ever die and get dropped on the roadside because they didn’t give birth. If there’s still life, there’s always hope.”
