Eddie Howe Urges Newcastle to Channel Anger into Motivation Following VAR Controversy

In the wake of a contentious VAR decision against Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, passionately declared that his team must embrace an “against the world” mentality.Z Howe, critical of the VAR ruling that went against them, believes that channeling the perceived injustice into motivation can be a driving force for his players.

The controversial incident involved Tino Livramento, who was penalized for handball after a cross from Ousmane Dembele struck his elbow via his torso, resulting in Kylian Mbappe converting the penalty for PSG. Looking ahead to their upcoming clash against Manchester United, Howe issued a rallying cry to his players and fans, emphasizing the need to adopt a resilient mindset.

Howe stated, “I always want that sense that we are against everybody outside of Newcastle. That helps us. It’s a good mentality to have, that we are competing against everybody else. It has certainly served us well to this point, so if it helps the players, great.”

Newcastle, under Howe’s tenure, has embraced an ‘us against the world’ mentality, particularly under the scrutiny following the 2021 takeover by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. Despite recent Champions League setbacks, Howe aims to galvanize his team and fanbase with a siege mentality as they prepare to face Manchester United.

As both teams seek to rebound from midweek disappointments, Newcastle and Manchester United will clash with only one point separating them in the Premier League standings. Newcastle will look to replicate their previous success at Old Trafford, where they secured a 3-0 victory in the Carabao Cup.
