The Edo State Government has withdrawn the 29-count charges against Mr Frank Irabor, Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council, and six palace staff for alleged destruction of properties.
In August 2022, the state government filed a 29-count indictment against the defendants for the demolition of houses in the Ulegun community of the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state.

Justice Mary Itsueli of the Edo State High Court remanded the defendants to jail.
At the case’s resumed hearing on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, the State Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Orobosa Okunbor, requested that the matter be withdrawn from the court.
Okunbor informed the court that the lawsuit was withdrawn to allow for peaceful reconciliation by the state administration, which had compensated those whose livelihoods had been affected by the destruction.
The defendants in the action had previously pleaded not guilty to the 29-count allegation filed against them.
