The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 18 suspects of internet fraud in Enugu state. They were selected from various parts of the state, according to a statement from its spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren on Tuesday.
The prime suspect is Chigozie Philips, founder of Holy Family School in Abakpa, where he allegedly trains prospective cybercriminals.
Thirteen of Phillips protégés were apprehended during a sting operation on Monday.
They are Joacin Kelvin, Kelechi Ibe, Chinonso James, Udeh Isaiah, Michael Chukwuemeka, Kingsley Okorie, Henry Chidiebere, Elochukwu Chukwuemeka Michael, Nelson Nnaji.
Others include Desmond James, Ozoma Chinonso Anthony, Uchenna Aka, Ozor Celestine, Ifeanyi Ozor Bright, Etuma John, Okafor Chukwuemeka, and Raymond Chinaza.
EFCC Spokesperson, Uwujaren disclosed that the items recovered from the suspects were 20 mobile phones and 2 laptops.
“The suspects have made useful statements and will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded”, he added.
EFCC officials in Ondo state recently arrested 25 people suspected of Internet fraud.
