The Ekiti State Government has given roadside traders in Ado-Ekiti a two-week ultimatum to leave unauthorised trading spots and move to the newly completed ultra-modern Agric Olope Market by June 23, 2025.
This directive was announced by Governor Biodun Oyebanji during a meeting with market women at the Palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe.
Governor Oyebanji stressed the need to maintain order and ensure safety in the state capital, highlighting the health and security risks posed by street trading.
He assured the traders that the new market is fully equipped with essential facilities such as reliable water supply, modern toilets, well-maintained road networks, security infrastructure, warehouses, and solar lighting for night trading.
The governor expressed confidence that the traders would comply with the relocation directive, noting that the market was designed to meet their needs and improve their trading experience.
The Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives, Mrs. Tayo Adeola, praised Governor Oyebanji’s leadership in completing the Agric Olope Market project. She encouraged traders to begin obtaining forms for shop and space allocation in the new market starting the following Tuesday.
Governor Oyebanji emphasised that the government prefers consultation and cooperation rather than forceful measures. However, he warned that any trader who fails to comply with the relocation order would face legal consequences.
