Nollywood stars Lateef Adedimeji and Adebimpe Adedimeji, popularly known as Mo Bimpe, have secured the full support of Ekiti State to produce a movie based on the historic Ekiti Parapo War.
The project, which has garnered immense attention, is set to highlight the region’s resistance against oppression, and showcase the rich culture and history of the Ekiti people.
The collaboration, announced by Yinka Oyebode, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Biodun Oyebanji, comes after a key meeting in Ado-Ekiti where the Governor approved the production. According to Oyebode, the film will be created under a partnership between the Ekiti State Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy and AL Notions Film Company, the Adedimejis’ production company, which previously produced Lisabi: The Uprising.
Speaking on the project, Mo Bimpe, originally from Ijero-Ekiti, expressed her excitement to take on the task of leading this historic endeavor. The film will utilize various locations across Ekiti, including its towns and villages, and will feature many talented actors, some of whom will come from the region.
In a recent Instagram post, Lateef Adedimeji shared their enthusiasm about their collaboration with the state government, praising Ekiti for its focus on enhancing its arts, culture, and creative economy. He also emphasized how important it is for them to continue telling authentic Nigerian stories, especially in the form of films that highlight the nation’s rich cultural heritage.
The project, fully funded by the private sector, aims to ensure that the Ekiti Parapo War, a significant chapter in Nigerian history, is documented for future generations.
