Nollywood actress and producer Etinosa Idemudia has sparked controversy after condemning the outfit of a young lady, Athena, calling it indecent.
The criticism, shared via Etinosa’s Instagram account, has ignited a debate online, with many accusing her of hypocrisy due to her past actions.
Etinosa, who had previously ceased making commentary videos to avoid insults, took to her Instagram to share her opinion on Athena’s attire. She posted a side-by-side comparison of the young lady and Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, both dressed in what she considered inappropriate clothing. In her caption, she respectfully expressed her disappointment in the outfit, stating:
“I stopped doing commentary videos because I don’t like insults, but some things are too much. This sweetheart’s outfit is a NO….. Respectfully, pls. Love and light.”
While she tried to frame her comments as respectful, many fans quickly voiced their displeasure.Several followers called out Etinosa for her perceived hypocrisy, reminding her of her past controversial behavior. One user, Ayoola874, wrote:
“We didn’t forget. The internet never forgets. You went naked on a livestream. Don’t throw stones when you live in a glass house.”
Another user, _Zinny, commented:
“You lost the right to give advice a long time ago when you tore a page in the Bible and smoked it. Give yourself the advice.”
Many others echoed similar sentiments, criticizing Etinosa for attempting to offer moral guidance while not having a clean record herself.
Etinosa’s comments come on the heels of a similar situation involving veteran actress Ngozi Ezeonu, who rebuked two young ladies for attending auditions in revealing outfits. Media personality Yeni Kuti, however, defended the women, questioning Ezeonu’s past behavior and calling out older generations for forgetting their youthful indiscretions.
In addition to her remarks about Athena, Etinosa also sparked a feud with fellow Nollywood actor Frederick Leonard. In an Instagram post, Etinosa mocked Leonard for his inconsistent treatment of crew members. She jokingly pointed out the irony of him motivating his own crew while allegedly mistreating others on different sets. This led to Leonard blocking her on social media.
In her post, Etinosa expressed her frustration, saying:
“Dear Frederick Leonard. You can block me from cracking a simple joke with you! It was an obvious joke; you could have deleted it or come to my DM to say, ‘Haba, babe, I don’t like it,’ and I’d sharply apologize and delete it. It was never intended to hurt you but I guess it hurts so much because it’s true!!”
She continued by addressing how Leonard allegedly mistreats crew members, urging him to stop treating them like “animals” and to stop using clout-chasing tactics. Despite the heated exchange, Etinosa later apologized, saying she never intended to hurt him.
Etinosa has also been vocal about other issues in the entertainment industry. Last year, she publicly called out BBNaija star Pere for failing to pay her for a job, advising him to learn how to refund payments when unable to fulfill his work commitments.
Etinosa Idemudia’s outspoken nature has often stirred up controversy, and her recent comments about Athena’s outfit and her fallout with Frederick Leonard are no exception. While she may feel her critiques are warranted, many believe that her past actions undermine her ability to offer advice on such matters.
