Ex-Man Utd Star Tapped as New Head Coach for Portland Timbers

Former Manchester United player Phil Neville is on the verge of securing a new role as the head coach for Major League Soccer (MLS) club, the Portland Timbers. This appointment comes just months after his departure from Inter Miami, where he had a disappointing record, managing only 31 wins in 83 matches during his stint as the Herons’ boss.

Neville’s departure from Inter Miami in June left much to be desired, with his tenure marked by a series of poor results. He frequently deflected blame onto external factors, blaming the opposition, referees, and even accusing them of cheating. His overall record at the helm of the Herons included 31 wins, 41 losses, and 11 draws, making his time at the club far from successful.

The Timbers, having failed to qualify for the 2023 MLS playoffs, have been in search of a new head coach since the departure of their former boss, Gio Savarese, in August. While there were other candidates with more promising track records in the league, Neville’s big-name status appears to have worked in his favor.

As the Timbers transition into the offseason, securing Neville as their head coach becomes a top priority as they look to revamp their strategy and aim for improved performance in the upcoming MLS season.
