The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board, JAMB, has objected to the Federal Government’s automatic deduction of funds owing to it from registration fees paid by UTME applicants.
This comes as JAMB disputed reports that it had raised the registration price for the 2024 UTME.
The government’s decision, according to JAMB, was considerably decreasing its income contribution to the Consolidated income Fund, CRF.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of JAMB, testified before the House Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies yesterday.
Oloyede added that from the board’s IGR schedule from 2019 to 2022, there was a considerable fall in income remittances to the FG coffers due to the lowering of examination fees for UTME candidates.
He stated that the examination fee was cut in 2019 from N5,000 to N3500, and that the FG had begun automatic deduction of internal revenue payments after the examination price reduction was authorised and implemented by the board.
Oloyede remarked as the chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies, Afoji Obuku, urged all agencies under the committee’s authority to increase their earnings and remittances to the government.
