Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, has said that President Bola Tinubu is not leaving any stone unturned in ensuring that Nigerians alter their thinking and absorb positive values.
Issa-Onilu remarked that the Tinubu government was devoted to offering Nigerians hope and inspiration by instilling the country’s essential values in its citizenry.
The NOA DG met with journalists in Ado Ekiti following a formal visit to the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe, and also visited with agency workers in Ekiti State.
Issa-Onilu stated that the administration will soon reveal the National Lifestyle Charter, which would include both the country’s pledges to its residents and the individuals’ promises to the country.
“We must be able to define who the citizens of our country are supposed to be. Our lifestyle in this country does not revolve around cultism, banditry, kidnapping or drug trafficking.
“We are a good, honest, sincere, and hard-working people, who love our neighbours. But somehow, we lost our way along the line.
“But now, the new administration has brought renewed hope. That means we have to go back to being who we were. We are not creating a new Nigeria; rather, we are going back to the real Nigeria. That is what we are trying to do at the NOA.
“In the past, people belonged to clubs such as Boys’ Scout, Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Brigade, Girls’ Guide, but all those are no longer there. Civics Education used to be a compulsory part of the curriculum in this country, but it was taken out. It has now been returned, though not compulsory.
“Why should English and Mathematics be compulsory, while nationalism study is not? It has to be.
“We need to reenergise the staff and let them understand what we intend to do, because they would be the ones to implement it,” he said.
