President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration says it would improve power supply across the country ahead of a scheduled increase in electricity tariffs on July 1.

Mr. Temitope Fashedemi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, made the announcement on Thursday.

According to the Ministry’s spokesman, Ms. Chinwe Udouwem, Fashedemi made the revelation during a visit to the Ministry by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Energy, Ms. Olu Verheijen.

According to Fashedemi, “We are hopeful that you will identify some of the issues confronting the sector as technical directors and heads of agencies under the ministry brief you on ongoing or concluding projects”.

Verheijen stressed in her remarks that the electricity industry is vital to a country’s economy and productivity.

She stated that the electricity sector changes throughout the years will have the expected good impact.

She emphasized the importance of collaboration among power sector stakeholders and a comprehensive approach to finding a long-term solution.

She stated, “We must create an enabling environment that allows the private sector to grow and arrive at affordable electricity tariffs for households, the major electricity consumers”.

The country’s power supply grew to 5852 gigatonne hours in the first quarter of 2023, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
