Job Description
Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings of fire alarms and/or other related electrical systems to determine the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings of fire alarms and/or other related electrical systems to determine the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.
- Inspects fire alarm equipment visually and replaces defective components; tests initiating and signal circuits, detectors, and systems transmitters, and makes needed repairs.
- Assist with the commissioning of new fire alarm systems documenting commissioning details; communicating deficiencies and progress
- Assist with testing and inspecting existing fire alarm systems
- Plan work as required
- Complete commissioning within planned timelines
- Submit accurate time logs
- Coordinates with the assigned team to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
- Diagnoses the cause of electrical problems or failures in assigned systems to identify equipment and/or system repair.
- Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders to provide information for making decisions, taking appropriate action, and/or complying with health and building regulations.
- Inspects electrical/fire alarm/mass notification systems and their components to evaluate conditions, identify necessary repairs, and recommend preventative maintenance.
- Installs electrical system components as assigned (e.g. panels, audible/visual alarms, pull stations, detectors, etc.) to provide enhanced and/or upgraded system capabilities.
- Maintains assigned vehicles, tools, and test equipment to ensure the availability of equipment in the workplace.
- Monitors the electrical/fire alarm/mass notification system work of outside contractors to ensure that the projects are satisfactorily completed and within local/state/federal and district codes, regulations, and specifications.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned to convey and/ or gather information required to perform job functions.
- Prepares written materials to document activities and/or convey information.
- Responds to emergencies during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in electronics or a related field preferred
- Ability to read/understand design and construction document
- 5+ years’ experience in the installation and/or maintenance of commercial fire alarm systems
- Must be able to differentiate types/colors of wire; use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet; carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 75 pounds unassisted
- Have a Fire Alarm Certification
- Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with limited violations
- Ability to manage and accurately track material resources and time, and adapt to changing work priorities;
- Ability to estimate time and materials, and manage resources;
- Demonstrated organizational problem-solving and common-sense skills; -Ability to work safely
- Customer service skills to act responsively to customer inquiries and requests, and escalate more complex matters appropriately;
- Communication skills to provide procedural and factual information, and to follow instructions; – Flexibility to build effective working relationships with staff, customers, and others.
