Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, the talented Nigerian singer, has recently shared insights into why he maintained a low musical profile in 2023, following his remarkable global success with the hit song ‘Peru’ and its remix featuring British superstar Ed Sheeran.
In a candid interview with Wat And Ers, Fireboy candidly explained his deliberate silence in the music scene this year, emphasizing the importance of taking a step back to focus on personal and artistic growth. He expressed,
2023 has been a year of learning and growth for me as a person and as an artist. I’m just really grateful for the journey. When people say be grateful for the journey, I think this year has been that year for me.”
Fireboy emphasized the significance of recognizing one’s humanity amidst the demands of being an artist. He highlighted the value of stepping away from the spotlight and appreciating life’s realities. Acknowledging the hectic nature of his previous year, he noted that 2023 provided him with a quieter period, allowing him to spend quality time with his family in Lagos, Nigeria.
Reflecting on the impact of his hit song ‘Peru,’ Fireboy acknowledged how it transformed his life and provided him with opportunities to explore new horizons. However, he also stressed the necessity for artists to take a break from the intensity of their careers, stating,
Peru changed my life and took me to so many places all at once but this year is one of those years where it’s necessary for artistes to grow and step down from all the craziness and just enjoy life and appreciate life for what it really is.”
